Book Review

I recently got back in contact with one of my roommates from my first semester at BYU-Idaho. It was so wonderful to hear from her and to find out what she has been up to these past few years. I found out that she published a novel earlier this year, which is actually how we got back in contact. I was excited to read the book and bought a copy of it about a month ago. I read it a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoyed it! The book is called The Gifted and is about a girl named Pyper who has an ability to control objects with her mind. Here is the description from the cover of the book:

Pyper just wants a normal life. But ever since the day she died, she's been able to control objects with her mind. What she can't control is a mother who fears Pyper's ability and the possibility of it being discovered. Pyper only finds solace in her friend and brother, Baler. When Pyper moves to yet another new school, she meets Kael, who takes an immediate interest in her. He knows her secret, and he needs her help saving the Fae people. The problem is, Pyper doesn't believe in Faeries. But when her brother is abducted, Pyper doesn't have much choice. Can she really save a race she doesn't believe exists? Can she rescue her brother? And can she accept her second chance at life?

I loved the characters and the way the story flowed. I read it in just a couple of days and had a hard time putting it down. I was talking to Curtis about the book and he said, "Deborah must be really good at writing suspense because with her book and her blog you are always so excited to find out what is going to happen next." It's true, she is really good at suspense. Several nights in a row I found myself saying that I was going to read "just one chapter" before going to bed and then finding myself sucked in to the story and not able to quit reading.
